Discussion :

What is PostgreSQL?

PostgreSQL is a fully featured object-relational database management system.  It supports a large part of the SQL standard and is designed to be extensible by users in many aspects.
Arulalan took the class about PostgreSQL. He took the following things :
PostgreSQL Installation :
We require  to give the following command to install Postgresql 8.4
sudo apt-get install postgresql
We need to install another package for supporting postgresql in python. To install it through terminal, use
sudo apt-get install python-psycopg2
Switching as a postgresql user and Creating seperate user in PostgreSQL.
How to create a database and tables under a particular database in PostgreSQL.
All those thing mentioned above are explained in the psql interpreter in the terminal using the commands available for PostgreSQL. Then he taught us to connect the psql database through python interpreter. It worked successfully.
Then he explained how the data is passing and storing into database from python. Arulalan explained all these concepts only for the single localhost. Further, he explained how data can be shared from one system to another system  in a local network.
Here, Some network concepts shared with us by Mr. Vijai Ganapathy.
Then Arulalan explained some user authentication method like trust, md5, password, etc., and type of host such as localhost, host, hostssl and hostnossl available in postgresql database. A configuration file has to be changed for giving authentication to a particular user if a user does not have permission to undertake any  activities in postgresql database. Here is the link you can find more about this.
The following link will give you guide to getting started with posgresql taken by Arulalan.
